Mini Seasons Not Starting in MLB The Show 26: What to Do - NeonFalcon - 06-24-2026

Mini Seasons is one of the most popular single-player modes in MLB The Show 26, but it can also be one of the most frustrating when it refuses to start or throws an unexpected error right at the beginning. In most cases, this isn’t a full game-breaking issue. It usually comes down to a broken roster state or a hidden lineup conflict inside Diamond Dynasty that prevents the season from initializing correctly.

This guide breaks down what’s actually happening and how to reliably get Mini Seasons working again.

What’s causing Mini Seasons not to start

In MLB The Show 26, Mini Seasons pulls your Diamond Dynasty roster into a separate offline-style league. The problem is that the game sometimes auto-generates a lineup that includes invalid or restricted cards without properly flagging them.

When this happens, the mode fails to initialize. You might see one of these symptoms:

The Mini Seasons screen freezes before schedule generation
An error message appears when you try to start a new season
The mode loads but immediately kicks you back out
A “not enough eligible players” warning shows up even when your roster looks fine

The root cause is usually a hidden conflict in your squad data, not your internet connection or console performance.

The roster bypass trick (most reliable fix)

The most consistent way players have fixed this issue is by resetting and rebuilding the roster state outside of Mini Seasons before entering it.

Here’s the method:

Go to the Manage Squads tab from the main Diamond Dynasty menu (do not enter Mini Seasons first).
Adjust your active squad so it fully meets Mini Seasons restrictions. This includes bench depth and pitching requirements.
Return to the main single-player Diamond Dynasty menu and hover over the Mini Seasons tile.
Select the “Restart Mini Season” option and hold the button to fully reset the current season data.
Enter Mini Seasons again and choose “Start Season.”
Do not open roster editing or lineup management immediately after entering. Go straight to the schedule screen first.
Once the schedule loads normally, you can safely adjust your lineup and rotations.

The key part here is avoiding roster edits during the initial loading phase. That’s when the game is most likely to re-trigger the broken lineup state.

Fixing ineligible roster errors inside Mini Seasons

Sometimes the mode does start, but you get blocked by a message saying your roster is invalid or you don’t have enough eligible players. This usually happens because the game has placed an illegal card in your bench or bullpen without clearly showing it.

To fix this:

Open the team management screen inside Mini Seasons
Manually check every position, including bench and bullpen
Replace players one by one instead of editing the whole lineup at once
Watch for the moment the game suddenly accepts the roster after a single swap

In many cases, only one hidden invalid card is causing the entire roster lock. Once it is replaced, the system refreshes and the mode becomes playable again.

Frozen playoffs or stuck post-game errors

A more annoying variation of this issue happens after winning a Mini Seasons championship. Instead of receiving rewards, the game can get stuck on an “Unexpected Error” screen or loop endlessly.

This usually happens when the server disconnects during reward distribution or when the save state fails to finalize.

Unfortunately, there is no recovery option for a corrupted season file. Once the save is stuck in this state:

You cannot restore the reward screen
You cannot re-enter that specific season
The only solution is to reset the Mini Season entirely

After resetting, the game rebuilds the schedule and creates a fresh save, allowing you to start again normally.

Mini Seasons issues in MLB The Show 26 are frustrating, but they are almost always caused by roster conflicts rather than permanent bugs. Once you understand how the game generates hidden lineups, the fixes become fairly straightforward: reset the season, rebuild your squad carefully, and avoid editing too early during load-in.

If the mode refuses to start, a full restart of the Mini Season combined with a clean roster setup will solve the problem in most cases.
