Stranded with a dead battery, did I jump start it correctly?
#1
Had a flat battery in a car park last night and a stranger helped me jump start it. He connected the cables in a certain order and it worked, but I'm now worried we might have done something wrong that could damage the car. I've heard horror stories about frying the ECU if you get it wrong. I read the Best way to jump start a dead battery afterwards to check and it seems like we did it properly, but I'd like reassurance. Does the order of connecting the cables actually matter that much, or is it more about avoiding sparks near the battery? And is it safe to jump start a modern car with all its electronics, or is there a risk?
