A method for the CFPE practicum: the scoring, your proctor, all ten activities, the written reports and the submission.

What you'll learn
Explain how the CFPE practicum is built: ten activities from NFPA 1030 Chapter 8, a proctor, four steps and a twelve-month deadline.
Read the practicum rubric and see what moves a criterion from meeting to exceeding expectations.
Choose a suitable proctor, and work out which plans, documents or proceedings each activity needs before you start writing.
Approach each of the ten activities knowing what it asks for, what the rubric rewards and the mistakes that cost points.
Structure a formal written report with findings, clause-level recommendations and a conclusion that matches them.
Submit a complete workbook: affidavit, proctor verifications, valid signatures and attachments, inside the deadline.

Requirements
The current CFPE practicum workbook, downloaded from the NFPA website. The course does not include NFPA text.
You are preparing for the CFPE exam, or have passed it, and are about to start the practicum.
Working knowledge of fire protection plan review. No prior practicum experience is needed.

Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Narration uses an AI voice cloned from the instructor's own voice; animations are code-generated with AI assistance; all technical content is written and checked by the instructor.

The CFPE, the Certified Fire Plans Examiner, has two phases: a cognitive exam, then the practicum. The practicum is ten activities from Chapter 8 of NFPA 1030, based on the real job of a fire plans examiner, each one checked and signed by a proctor, all within twelve months. This course is about that second phase. It gives you a method for building your practicum one activity at a time.

First, you will see how the practicum is built and how it is scored, criterion by criterion. Second, how to choose your proctor, and how to plan and source your own evidence before you write a word: which activities need plans, which need a legal proceeding, and which need none. Third, all ten activities, one lecture each: what the activity asks for, what the rubric rewards, and the mistakes that cost points. Fourth, the formal written reports, and the submission: the affidavit, the proctor verifications, the signatures and the deadline.

This course does not give you answers. There are no model answers, no sample checklists and no filled workbook pages, including the instructor's own. NFPA requires your own work, and the penalty for copying can reach every NFPA certification you hold. Section 2 shows you exactly where that line is.

The lectures are short, and each section ends with a short quiz. Keep the current practicum workbook open as you watch; download it from the NFPA website, because NFPA updated this certification in 2025.

Every requirement cited in the lectures was checked against the NFPA practicum documents named on screen, and every lecture was reviewed and approved by the instructor before release. The lectures describe the requirements in plain words. They do not reproduce NFPA text, so you will need your own copy of the practicum workbook.

About the instructor: Hussein Ragab is a Chartered Engineer, a member of CIBSE, a member of ASHRAE and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, with 14 years of MEP design in the UAE. He has been through the CFPE practicum himself, from finding a proctor to the final upload.

This course is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). CFPE and NFPA 1030 are trademarks of the NFPA. Always confirm requirements against the current version of the practicum workbook.

Who this course is for
CFPE candidates who are about to start, or are part way through, the practicum.
Fire protection engineers, plans examiners and inspectors who want a clear plan for the ten activities before they begin.
Candidates who want to stay on the right side of NFPA's own-work rule while still working efficiently.
